What has been the bond history for DPS? |
Since 2001, our community has supported two bond referendums totaling more than $157 million. Bond funds are providing the construction of several new schools, land for several more, plus much-needed expansion and renovation to many. The overwhelming majority of these projects have been completed by or in advance of deadlines, and within the allotted budget. County commissioners are putting another bond for school facilities on the ballot for November 6, 2007. Voters will decide on $194.2 million for school construction and renovation. |

DPS is finding creative solutions to school space needs. There also are schools within schools that have a particular focus and new uses for old facilities, namely the new W.G. Pearson Magnet Middle School in the former Pearson School building, which had been closed for a year. |

What has the increase in construction costs done to DPS’ capacity to build facilities? |
It’s a fact that construction costs have increased since Hurricane Katrina, but DPS has managed to keep all projects either within budget or slightly over budget. |
