  • Scope: Extensive renovations in existing facility and a 28,000 s.f. addition that houses kindergarten, pre-k and EC classrooms, as well as a new administrative area and media center.
  • Budget: Budget has been adjusted to accommodate unsuitable soils & rock outcroppings discovered during excavation and additional work was in parking lot.

R.N. Harris Elementary School

  • Design Consultant:  The Roberts Group, P.A.
  • Scope: A 27,500 s.f. addition that houses 4 kindergarten classrooms, 3 first grade classrooms, art room, music room, dance / drama room and new resource rooms. New parking area and playground courtyard included.
  • Budget: Completed within budget.
  • Schedule: Completed ahead of schedule.

Chewning Middle School  Phase I

  • Scope: Extensive renovations to approximately 85,000 s.f. of existing space. (Balance of facility to be renovated as part of the 2003 bond program). Site work includes improvements to drive and parking facilities.

Carrington Middle School

  • Design Consultant:  DTW Architects and Planners, LTD
  • Scope: Extensive renovations in existing facility and a 30,800 s.f. addition that houses 10 standard classrooms, vocational education space. Also included is anexpansion to the cafeteria and administrative areas and new stair towers.
  • Budget: Budget adjusted for extended renovation and site needs.
  • Schedule: Completed on schedule.
  • Award:  Durham City - County Appearance Commission’s Golden Leaf Award of Merit 2006

Rogers-Herr Middle School

  • Design Consultant:  Boney Architects
  • Scope: New additions totaling 45,000 s.f. including a 2-story addition that provides 7th and 8th grade classroom space, science and foreign language space. A new  guidance and career center is located on the second floor. Another addition provides new space for band, choral and art. Site improvements include a new bus loop, new parent drop off, extensive new parking, new football, baseball, and softball fields.
  • Budget: Within budget.
  • Schedule: Schedule adjusted for permitting.  Athletic fields and detention pond being finalized.
  • Award:  Durham City - County Appearance Commission’s Golden Leaf Award of Merit 2006

Creekside Elementary School

  • Present Scope: New 80,000 s.f. elementary school serving a capacity of 630 students.

  • Schedule:  Completed late; Opened January 2005

  • Present Scope: Connect school to city water.

  • Schedule: Project was rescheduled due to coordination with a local development project that can save significant bond funds.
